VIDALIA — U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu will have a public reception at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Vidalia Conference and Convention Center.

The meeting is open to the general public and offers Louisiana residents a chance to ask Landrieu questions, Concordia Parish Economic Development Director Heather Malone said.

Landrieu will also meet with parish officials before the meeting to discuss drainage problems.

Parish officials discussed the problems during an economic development committee meeting on July 10.

“When it rains heavily, water builds up in the (drainage) system, and it can cause flooding,” drainage committee chairman Bill Beasley said during the meeting.

To solve flooding problems, the drainage committee is looking to secure nearly $10 million to build drainage structures on Brushy Bayou, near Jonesville, and Black River Lake and conduct a watershed study. The study would evaluate if the structures endanger the environment and human life, Beasley said.
