Decontamination drill set for Tuesday

NATCHEZ — Adams County’s fire and emergency services will have a nuclear decontamination drill at Natchez High School Tuesday evening.

The drill is to rehearse in the event that Adams County plays host to a decontamination center in the even that there is an incident at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, Adams County Emergency Management Director Stan Owens said.

Adams County Search and Rescue and county volunteer firefighters will direct traffic at the site, while the Natchez Fire Department will be in charge of the portal monitor, which detects radiation, Owens said.

The NFD will also oversee activities inside the NHS gym, where a mock decontamination center will be set up.

All vehicles on the site will be washed, Owens said.

The drill will start at approximately 5 p.m.
