VIDALIA — Even though the Vidalia 16-and-under Seniors All-Stars are the host team for the Senior League Southwestern Regional Tournament, they were the ‘visiting’ team Monday afternoon in a winners’ bracket game against Louisiana District 5.

And after six regulation innings couldn’t decide the outcome, the game went into extra innings. It took another six innings, but being the ‘home’ team was a good thing for Louisiana District 5 as it rallied to defeat 5-4 in 12 innings at the Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.

The game went into extra innings with the scored tied at 3-3 and stayed that way for a while — even though the game came close to being over two innings earlier than it did.

Louisiana District 5 could have won the game in the bottom of the 10thafter having runners on first and second and no outs.

Instead, Amy Crockett tried to score the game-winning run with two outs, but she lowered her shoulder into the Vidalia catcher, Micahla Hughes, instead of sliding into home plate. That play caused Crockett to be ejected and it was the third out of the inning.

But Vidalia could not take advantage of the situation in the top of the 11th inning and didn’t score until plating one run in the top of the 12th for a 4-3 lead.

However, Shelby Nolker could not hold the lead for Vidalia as Louisiana District 5 scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the victory and advance to the finals.

Despite taking the loss, Nolker allowed just three hits and struck out two batters with no walks in four innings. Nikki Harbor went 2-for-5 with a triple and Karlee Woodruff was 2-for-5.

Vidalia dropped to the losers’ bracket with its first loss and had to wait until 10 p.m. Monday to take on the winner of the Texas West/Texas East game.
