NATCHEZ — A Natchez firefighter was injured Saturday while fighting a house fire on Mazique Lane.

Firefighter Guy Tuccio received third-degree burns to his left hand, second-degree burns on the left side of his back and first-degree burns to his right hand, Natchez Fire Chief Oliver Stewart said.

After being injured, Tuccio was taken to Natchez Community Hospital before being transported to Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Stewart said he didn’t think Tuccio’s injuries were life threatening.

Stewart said he was unsure of the cause of the house fire, but that no one was inside the structure at the time of the incident.

“I know that it was very hot, even hotter than usual,” he said. “Normally, they have to go in by crawling but they were barely able to crawl into the house.”

Stewart said two fire engines were dispatched to the Mazique Lane house at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday. The initial call indicated that a person was trapped inside the house, but no one was found in the house, Stewart said.

He said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
