Hattiesburg — Natchez was well represented in the 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship qualifier at Timberton Golf Club in Hattiesburg Tuesday.

Greg Brooking won the qualifier shooting a 2-under-par 70. The first alternate to qualify is Bill Bryne, also of Natchez.

Brooking said he was excited to win such a big tournament.

“I never expected to win an event of this magnitude,” Brooking said. “I would’ve been happy just to qualify, but to win it is very special.”

The championship will be played from Sept. 21-26 at Wade-Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, North Carolina.

The Senior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
