WEEKEND TICKET: Broadway production, football top weekend

NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou residents have an opportunity this weekend to see a Broadway production, adopt a furry, four-legged animal and kick off the start of high school football season.

A chance of thunderstorms and showers are forecasted for a majority of the weekend with temperatures low in the 90s.

Natchez Little Theatre will open its 66th season today with the Broadway musical, “The Color Purple.”

The production features an African-American cast of local thespians showing several problems in the South during the early 1900s such as poverty, racism and sexism.

The show opens at 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday evenings and closes with a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday.

Tickets are $20 a person and can be reserved in advance.

The box office will open one hour prior to each performance.

Friday night football

High school football will begin Friday with the three local private schools hosting teams from across the area.

Trinity will host Cenla Christian, Adams County Christian School will host Wilkinson County Christian Academy and Cathedral High School will host St. Aloysius. Natchez High School will travel to Wilkinson County High School.

All games begin at 7 p.m.

Kitten Adoption Day

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a “Kitchen Adoption Day” at the Natchez Mall at the theater entrance from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The price of adopting an animal — $35 for two kittens — includes spaying and neutering cost.
