MERIDIAN — Graveside services for Marjorie Elizabeth Chatam VanDevender, 89, of Vicksburg, who died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, will be at 11 a.m. today at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Meridian.

Burial will follow under the direction of Barham Funeral Home in Meridian.

Mrs. VanDevender was a native of Meridian. She worked for a number of years at the Western Auto Distribution Center. She moved to Natchez in 1970 and later retired from a bookkeeping position at Natchez Coca Cola.

After retirement, she and her husband, Troy, returned to the Meridian area and later moved to Vicksburg to be closer to family during his final illness.

Her years in Meridian and Natchez were spent as a faithful member and worker in her church. At the time of her death, she was a member of Highland Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

Marjorie is best remembered by her family as “Granny.” During her active years she was an avid reader, gardener, excellent cook and loved to crochet and sew. She will always be remembered as a generous person who adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. VanDevender was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Wayne and Wade.

Survivors include two sons, David and wife, Cynthia, and Wayne and wife, Peggy; six grandchildren, Heather, Dana, Leighann, Ellen, Brandy and Virginia; and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Lilly.
