Ouachita Christian tops Block 40-14 in openerPublished 1:07am Saturday, September 7, 2013
MONROE, La. — After a sluggish first half, Ouachita Christian showed why it is the two-time LHSAA Class 1A state champion as the Eagles defeated the Block Bears 40-14 Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Ouachita Christian only led 6-0 at halftime before breaking the game wide open in the second half. The Eagles outscored the Bears 20-6 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth quarter.
Raymond Plummer accounted for both of Block’s touchdowns. He first scored on a 15-yard run midway through the third quarter, and he scored on a 37-yard pass from Vyn’Quez O’Steen, who came in for Trevor Vault.
Vault ran the ball well, as he had 62 yards on six carries, but he didn’t complete any of his four passes. O’Steen completed 2 of 4 passes for 61 yards with Plummer catching both passes. Plummer also had 12 carries for 61 yards and Austin Danzy had eight rushes for 55 yards.
Block (0-1) will be at home at 7 p.m. next Friday when the Bears take on Ferriday.
