JONESVILLE — Two costly fumbles and two missed two-point conversions cost the Block Bears in their quest for their first win of the season as they fell to the Jena Giants 14-12 Friday night.

“We played pretty well. We just couldn’t get any breaks,” Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. said. “We had some turnovers. They had some turnovers.”

Block went to Vyn’Quez O’Steen at quarterback and completed 3 of 7 passes for 41 yards. Cameron Everett had eight carries for 78 yards and a touchdown, and Trevor Vault had 10 carries for 57 yards and a touchdown.

However, one fumble at the Jena 2-yard line and another one on what could have been the game-winning drive late in the game proved to be their undoing.

“The kids played hard. It was raining real bad,” coach Vault said. “At the end of the game, we had a couple of big runs. And then we fumbled the ball.”

The Bears finished with 10 first downs and just 187 yards of total offense.
