ST. FRANCISVILLE— Funeral services for Richard “Dickie” Hartman Prescott Sr., 79, of St. Francisville, formerly of Natchez, who died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until service time at the church.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Charlet Funeral Home.

Mr. Prescott was born May 8, 1934, in New Orleans, son of Elmer Ellsworth Sr. and Ursule Emma Prescott Niebergall.

Mr. Prescott was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. He was a petroleum geologist for Gulf Oil Company and worked as an independent geologist until his death.

“Dickie,” a much loved sports hero of West Feliciana Parish, graduated from Julies Freyhan High School and went onto letter in baseball and football for the LSU Tigers. He remained an avid follower of both, West Feliciana sports and his alma mater, LSU.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jenny Prescott; his parents; stepfather, Dr. Philip A. Niebergall; brother, Elmer Ellsworth Prescott Jr.; and infant daughter, Hope Prescott.

Survivors include his two children, Margaret Lynn Ballard and husband, Troy, of St. Francisville and Richard Hartman Prescott Jr. and wife, Patty Williams Prescott, of Natchez; five grandchildren he adored, Alyson Ballard Bell and husband, Jason, and Troy Allen “TAB” Ballard III of St. Francisville, Richard “Rick” Prescott III and wife, Alison Swalm Prescott, of Natchez, Tara Grace Jones and husband, Chris, Kate Prescott Rollins and husband, Jason, of Baton Rouge; seven beautiful great grandchildren, Mary Camille Bell, Rachel Leigh Prescott, Richard Hartman Prescott IV, Emma Frances Bell, Griffen Abel Rollins, Thomas Allen Jones and Margaret Mills Bell; nephews, Worth Prescott, Irvwin Prescott and James Prescott; he also leaves behind many cherished life long friends.
