Nearly every time it appeared that the Tigers were about to blow the game wide open, Oak Forest made sure that would not happen. After Haygood’s second touchdown pass, Dylan Dover returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown to make it a 14-7 game with 58 seconds left in the second quarter.

Then Haygood’s first 1-yard touchdown run with 15 seconds remaining until halftime gave the Tigers a 21-7 lead at the break. His second 1-yard TD run with 9:06 to go in the third quarter gave them a 28-7 lead. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Hasson to Kaylin Stewart with 4:04 left in the third quarter.

Curry scored on a 4-yard run with 9:28 left in the fourth quarter to give Centreville a 35-14 lead. Then with 5:20 remaining in the ball game, Hasson connected with Matthew Gill on a 59-yard touchdown pass.

Drew Noland was a tackling machine for Centreville’s defense as he led the Tigers with 15 tackles. Not to be outdone, Clark had 10 tackles and two interceptions. Both Shaw and Parker Doughty had eight tackles and Brandon Arnett had one fumble recovery.

Centreville Academy, the MAIS District 6-AA champion and the top-ranked team in Class AA, finished the regular season with a 9-1 record and will host at least a first-round playoff game, which will take place Friday at 7 p.m.
