Natchez ends disappointing season with Wingfield win

NATCHEZ — Natchez High School ended a frustrating season on a high note with a 54-36 victory against Wingfield High School, and a few seniors ended their careers with standout performances.

The Bulldogs’ Earon Brown had 72 yards on seven catches and two touchdowns, and Devonte Green led on defense with eight tackles, three assists and one sack. Capre Garner tallied two tackles, two assists and one interception on defense, and he also scored on a 12-yard touchdown catch.

Juniors Anthony Robinson and Sidney Davis stood out the most, however. Robinson led NHS in rushing with 166 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, and he was also 19 for 28 with 338 yards, five touchdowns and one interception. Davis, meanwhile, had 214 yards receiving on seven catches to go along with two touchdowns.

Davis caught his first touchdown with 8:29 left in the first on a 6-yard pass from Robinson. Earon Brown added a 25-yard scoring reception with 1:08 remaining in the first.

In the second quarter, Davis scored again on a 75-yard pass from Robinson with 4:35 to go, and Garner had his 12-yard scoring reception later in the quarter. Robinson scored on a 1-yard run with 11:13 to go in the third, and Brown scored with 6:50 remaining on a 9-yared pass. Robinson had his final touchdown of the night on a 5-yard carry with 2:44 left in the third.

Ferguson added one more score for NHS with 10:58 left in the fourth on an 8-yard run.

The Bulldogs tallied 310 total yards on the ground to go along with their 338 through the air. Ferguson finished with five rushes for 68 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Keenan Johnson had five tackles, two assists and two sacks.

NHS finished its season 4-7 overall, 2-5 in regional play.
