Join us for Veterans Day celebration

What is Veterans Day? Veterans Day is a day to celebrate and honor our United States Veterans of all wars.

It was formally called Armistice Day until 1954. Veterans Day is observed by all of the United States as an annual holiday on the anniversary of the end of World War I, which took place officially at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11. Veterans Day is important because it reminds us that if it were not for all of our Veterans and current military men and women, we would not be the free country that we are today.

Veterans Day is a way to say “thank you” to all of our military.

As part of our project-based learning, Delta Charter School in Ferriday is hosting a Veterans Day program to honor our local veterans. We believe that they risked their lives for our safety and it should be recognized. We want to show our veterans that we care.

Our program is 100 percent student run, with memorial projects and events presented from each class from kindergarten through ninth grade.

Each of the showcases is centered around our nation, our veterans and how we appreciate all that they have done for us. We want to show our community, through programs like this, that we, as a school, are different in the way we learn and the way our teachers teach.

Doing projects, such as the Veterans Day program, teaches us about our community and how we fit in as a school and as individuals.

Veterans who would like to come to our program will be greeted with a card, made by students, and escorted to a special seat in the gym. As they walk through the halls, they are likely to find their names among hundreds of veterans that our students know from our area in all branches of our military.

Students will be singing patriotic songs, reading poetry and will even have a patriotic photo booth for veterans and students to remember the day.

The sixth grade class at Delta Charter School, along with our entire school family, would be honored to have you as our guest at the Delta Charter School Veterans Day Program.

We will start our service at 10:30 a.m. today. Please arrive in advance to view our projects and honor wall. All veterans in our area, as well as the public are invited.

Any questions can be answered by calling the school at 318-757-3202.
