JONESVILLE — Cameron Everett and Raymond Plummer combined for 223 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns as the 11th-seeded Block Bears defeated the 22nd-seeded South Cameron Tarpons 42-7 Friday night in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class 1A Playoffs.

“It was a pretty good game. We pretty much did what we wanted to do,” Block head coach Benny Vault Jr. said. “We weren’t in a big hurry. We let the clock run down.”

Everett had 127 yards rushing and two touchdowns on just nine carries. His first touchdown of the game, a 4-yard run with 11 seconds to go in the first quarter, was set up by Shaverick Williams’ interception at the 4:25 mark.

Then Everett scored on a 60-yard run with only 10 seconds to go until halftime that put the District 3-1A champion Bears ahead 28-0 at halftime.

Plummer had 10 carries for 96 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to go with an 85-yard touchdown pass from Trevor Vault with 5:00 to go in the second quarter. Austin Danzy had five carries for 74 yards.

Vault gave credit to the offensive line for opening up big holes for the running backs.

“They know their assignments. They block well,” Vault said. “This is an aggressive offense. We didn’t run a whole bunch of different plays.”

South Cameron scored with 9:48 to go in the ball game to keep from being shut out. But Block responded with 4:20 remaining when Vyn’Quez O’Steen scored on a 1-yard quarterback keeper.

Block (6-5) next plays at 7 p.m. next Friday at No. 6 seed Pointe Coupee Central in the regional round. Pointe Coupee Central had a first-round bye.
