Fundraiser fun for 12 holiday ‘strays’

Published 12:05 am Sunday, November 24, 2013

We have all heard of the 12 days of Christmas. Now I would like to talk about the 12 “strays” of Christmas.

I am referring to the homeless pets at the Natchez Adams Humane Society Shelter. They are really not “strays” and there are actually more than 12 dogs and cats located there, but for the purposes of this article, I will use that word.

All the pets would like for you to help them by attending a Christmas fundraiser party from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 7, at the beautiful home of Jim and Charlotte Franklin.

Three friendly cocker spaniels (Beau, Dante and Lucy) will greet you. Beau says a special hello because he is a rescue dog from the Shelter.

The party will be held at 31 Country Squire Road in Natchez and a $25 donation per person will include a cash bar, silent auction, great food and wonderful fellowship of animal lovers.

Chantal Marsaw will be preparing her famous chicken Alfredo pasta. Beverly Hall will be tossing a succulent salad.

The Natchez Newcomers’ Club has graciously volunteered to prepare tempting Christmas desserts. Santa’s decorated truck will be at the party with hopes that guests will bring dog and cat foods as well as cleaning supplies for the Shelter.

Remember, since it is cold outside, the pets could use old towels, sheets and blankets. Please do not forget the cat litter and pet toys.

The 12-plus “strays” of Christmas would really love to go home with you for Christmas. The Shelter is located at 392 Liberty Road in Natchez. Adoption fees are $45 for dogs and $35 for cats.

If you cannot adopt at this time, please consider fostering a pet. Wouldn’t it be great if all the cages at the Shelter were empty this Christmas?

Lastly, I ask you to please consider cleaning out your closets and donating items for sale at the thrift store we recently opened at 103 S. Shields Lane. It is called “Paws for a Cause” and we are open every Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. If you have a garage sale, consider giving your leftover items to the store.

You can contact me at suscallon@yahoo.com or 601-445-5268 or send contributions to the P.O. Box 549 in Natchez.

The Natchez Adams Humane Society wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas. Thank you for all that you do for the pets. See you on Dec. 7!
