Loyd Star beats Cathedral

NATCHEZ — Marcey and Megan Givens combined to score 26 points to lead the Loyd Star Lady Hornets to a 52-28 win over the Cathedral Lady Green Wave Friday night.

Marcey Givens led all scorers with 15 points and Megan Givens added 11 points for Loyd Star, which outscored Cathedral 13-4 in the second quarter to turn a close game into a 24-12 halftime lead.

Elizabeth Smith led the Lady Green Wave with 13 points and Mackenzie Watts had eight points. Of the Lady Green Wave’s three losses this season, two have come at the hands of the Lady Hornets.

Cathedral (7-3) next plays at 6 p.m. on Jan. 3 at Monterey.

Trinity Episcopal 41, Ben’s Ford 27

BOGALUSA, La. — Tali Beard led Trinity Episcopal with 12 points as the Lady Saints overcame a rough first half to defeat the Ben’s Ford Christian School Lady Eagles 41-27 Friday night.

Trinity was held in check for much of the first half and trailed Ben’s Ford 19-15 at halftime. Then the Lady Saints were a completely different team in the second half. They outscored the Lady Eagles 15-4 in the third quarter and 11-4 in the fourth quarter.

Sloane Young finished with eight points and Rosa Woods had seven points for the Lady Saints. Savannah Smith led Ben’s Ford with a game-high 15 points.

Trinity Episcopal (4-7) takes on host Brookhaven Academy at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Brookhaven Academy Holiday Invitational.

Bowling Green 61, ACCS 23

FRANKLINTON, La. — In a battle between two of the top teams in MAIS Class AA, Bowling Green School proved to be too much for Adams County Christian School as the Lady Buccaneers defeated the Lady Rebels 61-23 Friday night.

Bowling Green had its way with ACCS in the first half and the Lady Rebels were never able to recover. The Lady Buccaneers had a 25-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and then outscored the Lady Rebels 23-1 in the second quarter for a 48-9 halftime lead.

Tory Laird was the only player for ACCS to score in double figures as she finished with 10 points.

ACCS (12-3) hosts Silliman Institute at 6 p.m. Dec. 30.

Marksville 51, Block 47

JENA, La. — Quinnesha Branch led Block with 18 points and Vontresia Barber had 11 points, but it was not enough as the Lady Bears lost to the Marksville Lady Tigers 51-47 Friday afternoon at the Jena Holiday Classic.

Marksville led Block 31-25 at halftime, but the Lady Bears got back in the game in the third quarter and trailed by just three points, 41-38 at the end of the quarter. However, the Lady Tigers did just enough to put a halt to Block’s rally.

Block (7-5) takes on Grant High School today at 9:10 a.m. at the Jena Holiday Classic.
