VIDALIA — Isiah Thompson led Vidalia with a game-high 30 points and Julius Wilson ended up with 18 points as the Vikings defeated the Caldwell Parish Spartans 74-62 Friday night in the Vikings’ LHSAA District 3-3A opener.

Vidalia scored at least 21 points in each of the first three quarters. After being held to just 10 points in the first quarter, Caldwell Parish tried its best to get back in the game. However, the Spartans didn’t have quite enough firepower to stay with the Vikings.

The Vikings led the Spartans 43-28 at halftime and 64-44 at the end of three quarters.

Caldwell Parish managed to outscore Vidalia 18-10 in the fourth quarter, but it was much too little, much too late.

Deion Brown added 12 points and J.T. Townsend chipped in with eight points.

Vidalia (N/A, 1-0) plays at Marksville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

ACCS 60, Amite School Center 23

LIBERTY — Brandon Brooks scored 12 points and Chris Guedon had 11 points as the Adams County Christian School Rebels defeated the Amite School Center Rebels 60-23 Friday night in an MAIS District 5-AA game.

Tyler Stockstill added 10 points for ACCS, which dominated Amite School Center on both ends of the court in the first half. ACCS led ASC 21-5 at the end of the first quarter and 43-12 at halftime.

Amite School Center played better in the second half, but the host Rebels had no chance of rallying from that big of a deficit.

ACCS (15-2, 4-1) next plays at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Brookhaven Academy in a key district match-up.

Wingfield 75, Natchez High 68

JACKSON — Despite getting a game-high 30 points from De’Arius Griffin, the Natchez High Bulldogs lost to the Wingfield Falcons 75-68 in an MHSAA Division 6-5A game Friday night.

It appeared that Natchez High was on its way to winning the game after putting up 26 points in the second quarter for a 37-36 halftime lead and then outscoring Wingfield 16-15 in the third quarter for a 53-51 lead.

But the Falcons had other ideas. Led by Jaylen Ford and Jarvis Jacobs, they outscored the Bulldogs 24-15 in the fourth quarter to escape with the seven-point win. Ford and Jacobs had 16 points each.

Keylan Wimley had 14 points and Michael Morris chipped in with 10 points for Natchez High (11-6, 1-2), which hosts Vicksburg at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Hinds AHS 67, Cathedral 37

NATCHEZ — Sterling Joiner scored 13 points and Jarius Smith added 12 points as the Hinds Agricultural High School Bulldogs used a big third quarter to defeat the Cathedral Green Wave 67-37 Friday night in an MHSAA Division 7-1A game.

Cathedral led Hinds AHS 13-8 after one quarter of play and the game was tied 18-18 at halftime. But any thoughts of the Green Wave winning this one quickly ended when the Bulldogs went to a press defense in the third quarter and outscored the Green Wave 30-3 for a 48-21 advantage.

Not one single player for the Green Wave scored in double figures. The team was led by Jardarius Anderson with eight points and R.J. Givens with six points.

Cathedral (6-8, 4-1) plays at St. Aloysius at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Winnfield 63, Ferriday 60

WINNFIELD, La. — DaJohn Mitchell led Ferriday with 22 points and Shannon Morales had 10 points, but the Winnfield Tigers held on for a 63-60 win over the Trojans in an LHSAA District 2-2A game Friday night.

Winnfield jumped out to a 15-8 lead after one quarter of play, but Ferriday matched point for point with the Tigers in the next two quarters. The Trojans had their chances to get over the hump in the fourth quarter, but they only managed to outscore the Tigers 16-12.

Ferriday (5-13, 1-2) hosts Oak Grove in a district game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
