Postponements: Cold temps puts hold on area games

NATCHEZ — Today’s impending snowstorm has already forced three area teams competing in the first round of the MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A South State Soccer Playoffs to have their games postponed.

The Cathedral Lady Green Wave’s opening-round game at St. Andrews will now take place Thursday at 5:30 p.m., head coach Donovan Silva said.

Franklin County head coach Jeff Long, who coaches the varsity girls’ and varsity boys’ teams, said both of their home first-round games have been postponed until Thursday, as well. The Lady Bulldogs will take on Madison St. Joseph at 5:30 p.m. and the Bulldogs face St. Aloysius at 7 p.m.

Several area basketball teams have also had to postpone their games because of inclement weather.

Adams County Christian School’s MAIS District 5-AA games at Prentiss Christian School have been rescheduled for Friday beginning at 4 p.m.

Natchez High’s non-division home games against Hazlehurst High School have been canceled. Lady Bulldogs head coach Alphaka Moore said the games will probably not be rescheduled.

Vidalia’s home basketball games against LHSAA District 3-3A opponent Buckeye have been postponed. However, Vikings head coach Fred Marsalis said no decision has been made as to when they will be made up. He said that they could be rescheduled for Wednesday, but that will depend on the weather.

The MHSAA Division 7-3A games between rivals Jefferson County and Franklin County in Meadville have also been rescheduled. Lady Tigers head coach Flora McKnight said that those games will take place Thursday starting at 5 p.m.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy’s MAIS District 7-A games at Tallulah Academy have been postponed and are rescheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m., Lady Rams head coach Dani Wright said.

As for the Franklin Academy at Tensas Academy, Sterlington at Ferriday and Cathedral at Mississippi School for the Deaf basketball games, no decisions will be made on them until sometime this morning.

Tensas Academy head coach Nicky Pere’ said if the games against MAIS District 7-A opponent Franklin Academy are postponed, they will have to decide when to reschedule them.

Ferriday Lady Trojans head coach Lisa Abron said if their home games against LHSAA District 2-2A opponent Sterlington are postponed, they will be rescheduled for Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.

Cathedral Green Wave head coach Peter Arnold said if their MHSAA Division 7-1A games at Mississippi School for the Deaf are postponed, they will take place on Feb. 5 starting at 5 p.m.

Monterey Lady Wolves head coach Cary Shivley noted that if their LHSAA District 6-B opener at Grace Christian School is postponed, it will take place on Monday at 6 p.m.

Efforts to reach Block coaches Veronica Savage and Tom O’Kelly about whether their games at LHSAA District 3-1A rival St. Mary’s in Natchitoches, La., will take place were unsuccessful as of press time.
