Vidalia — A 13-year-old Vidalia teen was in critical condition Friday at an Alexandria hospital recovering from being shot in the chest by his brother with a bow and arrow.

Vidalia Police Chief Arthur Lewis said officers responded to a report of a child being shot with an arrow Thursday at 2:22 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the victim’s 15-year-old brother had shot him. VPD officials chose not to release the name of the victim and brother because of their ages.

The teen was treated on scene before being taken to Natchez Regional Medical Center and later Rapides Regional Medical center in Alexandria, where he remained in critical condition Friday evening.

Witnesses questioned at the scene, Lewis said, described the incident as an accident. The brother and others were brought to the police station for questioning, but were later released.

Lewis said the incident is under investigation. LifeShare Blood Centers will be at the Vidalia Walmart from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday seeking donations for the injured teen.
