LORMAN — Memorial services for Artie Yvonne May Smith, 67, of Lorman, who died Saturday, March 15, 2014, at River Regions Medical Center in Vicksburg, will be at noon Thursday at Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.

Mrs. Smith was born Nov. 14, 1946, in Ruleville, the daughter of Caszell Sr. and Georgia Waldington May.

She served in multiple capacities at her beloved Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church, but was especially proud to serve on the hospitality committee, pastoral and church anniversary committees and the women’s auxiliary.

Her work experience as an educator began in the late 1960’s in Drew. Up until retirement, she worked with Title III programs and in the Department of Social Sciences and Education and Psychology as an instructor and media specialist at Alcorn State University for nearly 30 years.

She loved her puppy fondly named Neno “Winky” Smith.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifton Theodore Smith; two brothers, D. C. May Sr. and Caszell “Joe” May Jr.; and one sister, Georgia Pace.

Survivors include three daughters, Tracee Tamiko Smith, Crystal Nicole Cook and husband, Tracy and Erin Cliff Ugboaja and husband, Kanayo, all of Fayette; one step-son, Craig Durant Smith and wife, Marilyn, of Milwaukee; two step-daughters, Faith Darlene Brown of Vicksburg and Tonia Camille Smith of Milwaukee; 15 grandchildren, Montreal Frye, Latisthia Brown, Kanika Frye, La Toni Moore, Anthony Knox, Cornelius Smith, Caleb Smith, KeAunte Smith, Allen Smith, Joshua Smith, Kennedi Cook, Casey Cook, Maxwell Ugboaja, Darrell Ugboaja and Adanna Ugboaja; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three god-children, Naundra Heidelburg of Stockbridge, Ga., Melvin “Zookie” Roberts of Fayette and Anthony ‘”Dee” Tolliver of Lorman; best friend and bud, Vera Ballard of Fayette; and a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Live plants may be delivered to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Waterloo Missionary Baptist Church “Clifton and Artie Smith Scholarship Fund.”
