NATCHEZ — Police have charged a 22-year-old Natchez man for reportedly shooting and killing another man in February.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said Maurice Davis, 22, 165 Tubman Circle, was charged today with murder for reportedly shooting Terrence Thornburg, 20, in the back of the head Feb. 23 in Thornburg’s house.

Ford said Davis and Thornburg were acquaintances, and Davis came to Thornburg’s house on the night of the murder to get even with him after losing money to Thornburg in a dice game.

“He went there to rob him, and once he got there, they got into a scuffle that led to Davis actually shooting (Thornburg),” Ford said.

Witness testimony said that Davis was reportedly bragging about killing Thornburg in the community and other evidence led to his arrest, Ford said.

Davis is being held in the Natchez City Jail with no bond.
