NATCHEZ — Quinton Logan did his best to help Trinity Episcopal rally from an early deficit to Franklin Academy, but it was not quite enough as the Cougars held on for an 8-6 win over the Saints Tuesday afternoon in an MAIS District 7-A game at Chester Willis Field.

Logan also tried to overcome an up-and-down performance on the mound. He struck out 12 batters, but he also gave up four runs on eight hits, three walks, and one hit batter. At the plate he was superb, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple.

The problem was the Saints trailed 3-0 after three innings of play before finally getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. They cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

However, the Cougars scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to make it an 8-3 game. The Saints tried to get one last rally going in the bottom of the seventh, but they could only bring in three runs. Wyatt Boothe was 2-for-3 for Trinity.

Curt McGuffee was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs on four hits with nine strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter. Hunter Jones went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Cougars’ 10-hit attack.

Trinity Episcopal (3-5, 2-3) next plays at 6 p.m. Friday at Franklin Academy.

WESSON — Mack Smith scattered nine hits and struck out six in a complete-game showing and he drove in three runs as the Wesson Cobras defeated the Franklin County Bulldogs 8-4 Tuesday afternoon in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game.
