April is Donate Life Month, a month set aside to help raise awareness for the need for organ donations.

While the prospect of donating an organ can be sobering, there is one part of yourself you can donate with little or no risk at all to your health: blood.

Mississippi Blood Services invites healthy individuals who can donate blood to come out during donate life month and give a piece of themselves for life.

The Natchez Community Hospital will be holding a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. April 9.

The MBS Donor Coach will be on site. All donors will receive a free T-shirt. Donors can now check their overall cholesterol number on their MBSConnect Account.

“Blood donors donate life every time they give blood,” Susan Ates, MBS public relations specialist, said. “They may not realize it, but they’re part of a team that makes medical marvels like organ transplants possible.”

Donating blood is safe, simple and it saves lives. Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parental consent, visit our Web site for a copy of the form), weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid ID.
