Ben Hillyer / The Natchez Democrat — McNeely Road Church member Meghan Monehan, 3, can’t wait to grab some of the 10,000 eggs that will be hidden at the Natchez State Park Saturday as part of the church’s Easter Celebration.

The hunt will be on Saturday in the Miss-Lou as area children scour to find Easter eggs filled with candy and other prizes.

Several churches and organizations will host Easter egg hunts with anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 eggs available to be found.

The 58th annual Miss-Lou Easter Egg Hunt will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday at Duncan Park Ball Field for children 1 to 8 years old.

Natchez resident Bobby Ewing took over organizing the event nearly 23 years ago after his father P.K. Ewing Jr. and then Jim and Diana Nutter handed it off.

Ewing said he’s enjoyed watching the early egg hunt grow to be the largest one in the area thanks to various sponsors and organizers.

“With the help of Coach Wilbert Whitley and the Natchez Recreation Department, Clark Feiser and the Natchez Retiree Partnership, this egg hunt will have thousands of eggs and more prizes than ever before,” Ewing said. “Thanks again to many area businesses such as WTYJ/WMIS Radio, Gary Phillis Small, McDonald’s, Home Bank, Kelly’s Kids and many others too numerous to mention.”

Each egg will have candy or special numbers that will receive prizes.

“Jelly Bean,” the hunt’s official mascot, will be on hand to pass out candy and prizes to all of the children.

The event is free and open to the public.

Eggapalooza

Natchez Church of God will host the first Eggapalooza beginning at 10 a.m. at Natchez State Park.

Games, face painting and door prizes will be available, followed by the Easter egg hunt at 10:30 a.m.

Children, who will be separated by ages, will search for 10,000 eggs that will be scattered around the park.

Candy eggs, toy eggs and some hidden prize eggs will be available as well.

At 11 a.m., hamburgers and hotdogs will be cooked by Luke Brumfield, who will be cooking in memory of his brother, Tyler Brumfield, who died in a two-vehicle collision last month.

Kristie Messer, Eggapalooza coordinator, said several local businesses have donated goodies and two Easter basket giveaways, one for a child and one for an adult.

Gift cards will also be given away to those in attendance.

The event is free and open to the public.

Community Chapel Church of God

The church will host an Easter egg hunt from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, which is located at 100 Oakland Drive off Morgantown Road.

The hunt will be for children ages infant through 9 years old.

Robert Wallis, associate pastor of youth, said nearly 400 eggs will be available for the children to hunt, and those able are asked to bring 12 more with them if possible.

Food and refreshments will also be available.

“This is a unique way we have to share the gospel,” Wallis said. “We’re looking forward to having a fun-filled event.”
