Support United Way, join golf scramble

Hey duffers — looking for golfing fun and festivity at a great venue?

Then grab your clubs and come join us for the 21st annual United Way Golf Scramble June 12 at the beautiful Beau Pré Country Club. This year’s scramble has the best door prizes and gifts to give away to the lucky ticket holders.

It’s a great way to have some fun while helping the United Way of the Greater Miss-Lou raise funds to support local agencies that serve people and families who are economically and socially vulnerable. We are most grateful for our golf scramble sponsorships, Southwest Distributors, Coca Cola, Stoke’s Distributors, Isle of Capri Casino, Trace City Toyota and The Markets. We greatly appreciate all of the other local businesses who are sponsoring teams, donating door prizes and making significant dollar donations. But we urge others to join — it’s not too late.

Here are the golf scramble details: Platinum sponsorship is $700 and includes lunch, the closing reception and hole sponsorship, plus fielding a four person team. Hole sponsorships are $100. Individual players can enter the scramble for $125. This entry fee covers lunch, green and cart fees, range balls and the closing reception. Individual players will be assigned to play on a team. Mulligans may be purchased three for $20.

This is a great way to give your organization marketing visibility while helping a worthy cause. The day begins with lunch being served from 11a.m. until 1 p.m. shotgun start. At the end of the scramble, we will have an awards reception with refreshments and prizes for categories, such as best team score, longest drive, closet to the hole and 2014 Toyota Camry for the first golfer who manages a hole in one on hole No. 16. In addition, there will be plenty of door prizes, such as the Dancing Rabbit Golf Club at Pearl River Resort, which includes four rounds of golf; Isle of Capri Casino, Lake Charles, La., which includes one night and dinner for two; Golden Nugget Casino Hotel in Biloxi, which includes two nights and dinner: and paintings from local artists and good wines to taste.

Also at the scramble’s conclusion, the annual helicopter ball drop will take place. Numbered golf balls purchased for $20 each, will be dropped onto the green. The person whose ball lands closest to the hole or possibly going into the hole will win half of the cash collected from the ball drop and getaway package to the Resorts Casino Tunica in Robinsonville.

Remember, the United Way Golf Scramble supports the agency’s purpose to develop a strong volunteer driven organization that champions effective donor-based programs that enhance the quality of life for all residents of the Miss-Lou. Our goal is to move them from dependency to productivity, thus becoming a contributing member of society.

The United Way also supports programs that enhance the quality of life in the area, such as recreation for youth, emergency preparedness for all, counseling and transportation for aging and other social and health services.

We also want everyone in the community to know about our 2014-2015 Campaign Kick-Off Jambalaya theme. This year, thanks to the Hollywood glamour that was brought to Natchez for the James Brown movie, we will be celebrating the United Way campaign with the “Get On Up” theme based on the movie. It will be lots of fun for all.
