MARKSVILLE, La. — The Vidalia Girls Little League 9- and 10-year-old softball All-Stars went undefeated over the weekend in their two games en route to today’s championship game at the district tournament.

In Saturday evening’s 13-1 four-inning win over the Marksville All-Stars, Vidalia’s Becca Cowan was dominant. Cowan threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters. The game was called because of the 12-run-after-four-innings mercy rule.

On Sunday afternoon, Vidalia used four pitchers and got some timely and big hits to hold on for a 6-5 victory over the Avoyelles All-Stars in seven innings.

“This game was very exciting with both teams playing extremely well,” assistant head coach Bo Sproles said.

Anna Poole got the start and allowed two runs while striking out five batters. Lipsey came on in relief of Poole and didn’t give up anything in her one inning of work. Jaden Boydstun was credited with the win after going five innings and allowing just two runs, while striking out seven batters. Cowan went in to close the game and gave up one run to go with one strikeout.

Poole also had the big hit of the game with an inside-the-park home run. Green had a triple, while Lipsey and Maynard each had a single and Boydstun added a bunt single.

Vidalia and Avoyelles will play each other for the district championship with Vidalia needing just one win to clinch. Game time is at 6 p.m. today.

The Vidalia Girls Little League 9- and 10-year-old All-Star team has also clinched a berth in the state tournament Friday.
