NATCHEZ — Services for Ruby Nell Watts McCalip, 87, of Natchez, who died Saturday, July 26, 2014, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Kramer officiating.

Burial will follow in Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCalip was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Lincoln County, the daughter of Franklin Marion Watts and Annie Bell Posey Watts.

She attended West Lincoln High School in Lincoln County and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She also graduated from Draughon Business College in Jackson.

At age 80, she retired from E.L. McCalip and Son Gravel Company.

She will be remembered for her beauty and style, and gentle unassuming manner.

Mr. McCalip was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest L. McCalip; her parents; four brothers, Columbus Watts, Loyd Watts, Pearlie Watts and Robert Watts; and three sisters, Bessie Lou Watts Adams, Clara Mae Watts Smith and Gertrude Watts Smith.

Survivors include her two sons, Ernest Lloyd McCalip Jr. and William Glen McCalip; one daughter, Dr. Melody M. Samuelson; seven grandchildren, Dixon Langeman, Ashley Dillon, Brittany McCalip, Paul McCalip, Joseph McCalip, Jeanette McCalip and Ferris McCalip; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of loving nephews and nieces.

Pallbearers will be Dixon Langeman, Grady Wilson, Jack Norman, Kyle McCann, Kennon Adams and Hershel Adams.

Honorary pallbearers will be Trey Dillon, Bobby Myers, Lance Adams and Randy Adams.

The family would like to thank her doctors, Dr. Edward Daly and Dr. Rodriguez for their loving medical care and compassion.

We would like to also thank the staff of Natchez Regional Medical Center, especially the nurses on the third floor and telemetry.

The family would also like to thank her church family for all their kindness.
