Inspiring Young Ladies will host a Passionately Pink Gala from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday on behalf of Susan G. Komen to raise money for breast cancer research and help improve breast cancer awareness.

IYL is a non-profit organization founded in Irving, Texas, created by Natchez native NaTamasha Hawkins that will soon branch out and incorporate programs in Natchez.

The organization, Hawkins said, aims to provide life-changing programs to enable growth among teen girls.

Hawkins said the gala would serve as a way for the community to get an introduction into the organization and what types of activities and programs would soon be coming to the area.

“I want to reach back and help my community where I’m from, and there are so many people in need of medical support in Mississippi that we can help through these fundraising events,” Hawkins said. “The purpose of the gala is also to focus on health and the impact wellness can have on someone’s life.”

Hawkins said all funds raised at the gala would support Susan G. Komen, a nonprofit organization that’s working to end breast cancer through research and community health outreach.

Live music, dinner and discussions of breast cancer statistics will be a part of the event.

The gala will be hosted at the Natchez Museum of Afro-American History and Culture, where tickets can be purchased for $20 through Saturday.

‘Bugsy Malone’

The Natchez Little Theatre will launch its 67th season with the musical comedy “Bugsy Malone” today through Sunday.

The pint-sized, pin-striped classic is a tongue-in-cheek musical tribute to the gangster films of the 1920s, said NLT Executive Director Layne Taylor.

The play will be performed at 7:30 p.m. today through Saturday and will end with a final matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling NLT at 601-442-2233 or online at natcheztheatre.org. NLT is located at 319 Linton Ave. at Maple Street.

Jewelry workshop

The Natchez Art Association will host a jewelry metalwork workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. today at 118 N. Pearl St., No. 105.

Those in attendance are invited to learn metalworking skills while creating a pendant, bracelet and earrings.

The cost to attend the workshop is $25.
