NATCHEZ — To head coach Zach Rogel’s delight, a healthy Trinity football team will take the field against Centreville Academy Friday night.

In the Saints’ first home game of the season, Trinity will look to rebound after a 62-36 loss to University Academy, a game that saw multiple Saints go down with injuries. Rogel said Cade Wells will be able to play after suffering a pinched nerve and deep bruise on his collarbone, but Tommy McCoy still hasn’t been cleared after suffering a high ankle sprain in the loss. McCoy practiced in shorts while the teams suited up in full pads Monday.

Entering Friday’s contest, Rogel said the Saints’ confidence isn’t shaken, which will be important with a good-looking Centreville football team coming to town.

“They do everything well,” Rogel said. “They’re just solid across the board. They have a good quarterback and a good heap of backs in the backfield.

Casey Haygood threw for a pair of touchdowns in Centreville’s 49-14 win against Brookhaven Academy last Friday night. Tyler Caston scored three times on special teams, including an 87-yard kickoff return to begin the game.

“Caston is dangerous,” Rogel said. “Any Coach (Bill) Hurst team is dangerous, though. I know from playing against Coach Hurst when I was a player at Trinity that his football teams are always good.”

Rogel is hoping Trinity’s Caston can repeat the same type of success he had against University Academy, as Kevontaye Caston was involved in all five Trinity scores, scoring on passes, rushes and kickoff returns. As for his team’s confidence level entering the game, Rogel said his group isn’t shaken, but focused on taking care of business Friday night.

“This team has really come together as a family,” Rogel said. “Seeing young kids step up in game situations is all part of the process.”
