NATCHEZ — An Adams County grand jury has indicted a Natchez man on a charge of murder for his role in a fatal nightclub shooting.

Marvin Anthony Watson, 49, 230 County Club Drive, was booked into the Adams County Jail on the indictment Thursday.

The indictment is connected to the 5 a.m. May 18 shooting of Peter Jones III, 31, at a nightclub near the intersection of Steamplant and Green Acres roads.

Jones sustained several wounds — including one to the stomach — and was placed on life support at University Medical Center in Jackson before he ultimately died May 27.

Watson turned himself in to authorities May 18.

He was released on a $75,000 bond Thursday.

Following Jones’ death, Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said investigators hadn’t been able to determine a motive for the shooting.

Mayfield could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
