Cutting torch leads to county barn fire

NATCHEZ — A cutting torch plus hay resulted in a fire that caused thousands of dollars worth of damage in southern Adams County Thursday.

According to a news release from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, a farm worker on Ellislie Plantation Road was using a cutting torch to open a gate on a hay barn to release a calf.

After cutting the gate, the worker noticed the hay in the barn was on fire and called 911, according to the release.

Three Natchez Fire Department trucks and two volunteer fire department trucks responded to the scene as the fire spread throughout the hay.

The fire caused approximately $2,500 worth of damage, according to the release.

The matter is under investigation.
