NATCHEZ — On senior night at Adams County Christian School, Brooke Runnels shutout Brookhaven Academy in her final regular season game at ACCS

“Hey, this ain’t the last time we’re going to play,” said head coach Rick Fife to his seniors following the 12-0 victory, looking forward to the contest against Amite School Center today.

Fife said that contest would determine who ACCS plays Saturday at the MAIS AA South State Tournament.

Against Brookhaven Academy, Runnels allowed two hits and walked one in her strong outing, but it was the offense that created a short night for ACCS, ending the game after the fourth inning.

The Rebels got two girls on at the beginning of the first inning before back-to-back RBI doubles by Ashleigh Williams and Jordan Petty gave ACCS a 2-0 lead. An RBI slap bunt by Kylie Powell added another run to put ACCS up 3-0 after one. Taking advantage of getting runners on base set the tempo for Fife’s club.

“It’s very important,” Fife said. “We executed bunting, which is something I was very proud of, and had situational hitting.”

The Rebels added two more in the second, and ACCS poured it on Brookhaven Academy in the third, scoring six runs. Petty added another single and Anna McDaniel produced an RBI single before Brianna Henson lined a shot to the wall. Henson’s 2-RBI single was inches away from clearing the wall.

After the win, Fife led a prayer with his team, celebrating the last game played by the Rebel seniors at home. Fife said the seniors were the glue that kept the team together when former head coach Forrest Foster resigned, displaying the senior leadership ACCS tries to evoke on their student athletes.

“They were the building block for future success,” Fife said. “I’m going to miss them.”
