ACCS’ King unhappy with team focus

NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School David King demands more than what he’s currently receiving from his Rebels.

King is in a foul mood, upset with the lack of effort and intensity ACCS players have shown at practice.

“This ought to be a game we easily get up for, but we have the focus of a youth league football team, and our intensity is crap,” King ranted.

Despite the lack of focus at practice, the Rebels are coming off of a 52-6 win against Central Private last weekend, but the Rebels face stiffer competition this week when they travel to play University Academy.

“They’re the No. 1 team in Class 1A, and if we play like we’ve been practicing, they’ll set scoring records on us with the way they put points on the board,” King said.

Through four games, University Academy has outscored its opponents 194-57. The Rebels have proven capable of putting points on the board too, scoring 51 points per game.

Like last week, the Rebels will be without Tyler Stockstill, who is still recovering from a concussion. In his absence, Carlos Woods has stepped in as the full-time quarterback and completed 12 of 15 and passed for 204 yards and three passing touchdowns in the win against Central Private.

“Carlos has stepped in and played well,” King said. “That’s why I always have multiple starting quarterbacks for situations like this.”

Before the matchup, King reached out to his former player and Trinity Saints’ head coach Zach Rogel about University, who defeated the Saints 62-36 in week one.

“I talk to Coach Rogel regularly,” King said. “We always help each other out against opponents, and if nothing else, we like to keep up with each other.”

ACCS will look to improve to 4-1 with a win against University Academy.
