NATCHEZ — Trinity softball player Kayla Gilmore was selected to participate in the MAIS Class 1A All Star Game Oct. 8.

Gilmore, a senior shortstop, will be one of 12 girls to play for the South A team.

Trinity head softball coach Miranda Smith said Gilmore deserved the opportunity to play by being a .400 power hitter in the Saints’ lineup. Smith said Gilmore was a leader, texting team members to make sure everyone was on time.

“Kayla was really a true senior leader,” Smith said. “Nowadays people don’t assign team captains, but if I had to, I would give it to Kayla.”

The all-star game will be played at Jackson Prep School at approximately 4:30 p.m. following an all-star banquet that will occur at 11:15 that morning.
