GRITS needs your online votes

VIDALIA — Operation GRITS is asking for your help to win an additional $10,000 in a charitable contest.

The Vidalia-based non-profit, which sends care packages to U.S. servicemen and women overseas at Christmas, has already been awarded $3,000 by becoming a finalist in the Safeco Make More Happen Contest.

But the winner of the contest between 30 charities will be awarded an additional $10,000.

The contest is decided by votes cast at safeco.com/make-more-happen.

An individual can cast a vote every 24 hours, with the contest running until noon Nov. 17.

Operation GRITS aims to target those in the military serving overseas who may not have a family at home that is able to send them a care package. The group also sends king cakes to service members during the Mardi Gras season to give them a taste of home.

The charities selected for the Make More Happen contest are affiliated with insurance agencies that represent the Safeco insurance company. Reed is a customer service representative with Reed Insurance Agency in Vidalia.
