ASU NAACP chapter hosting walk, vigil

LORMAN — A local chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host a walk and candlelight vigil Monday at Alcorn State University in Lorman.

The Alcorn State University Chapter of the NAACP will sponsor the “I am Mike Brown Walk” at 5:30 p.m. Monday.

The walk will begin at the James Bolden Campus Union, and will be followed by a brief candlelight vigil on the steps of the Oakland Memorial Chapel in honor of Mike Brown, a 18 year old who was shot and killed in Ferguson, Mo., earlier this year.

The purpose of the event is to increase the awareness of social and civil rights.

Residents of Jackson, Vicksburg, Natchez, Hattiesburg and other areas are invited to attend.
