LAKE ARTHUR, La. — The Ferriday High School Trojans saw their season come to an end Friday night on the road as they lost to the Lake Arthur High School Tigers 24-12 in the first round of the LHSAA Class 2A Playoffs.

Ferriday came into the game as the No. 17 seed and on a three-game winning streak. None of that seemed to matter to No. 16 seed Lake Arthur (6-5), which has been to the postseason more often than the Trojans have in recent years.

“They wanted it a little more in the trenches,” Ferridayhead coach Cleothis Cummings said. “They ran the ball well. Their running back, (Trey) Hargrave, ran for over 200 yards. When you have a back on the opposing team that runs the ball like that, it puts you in a hole.”

Both teams found the end zone twice in the second quarter, but the Tigers also converted on a pair of two-point conversions that helped them take a 16-12 lead into halftime. Then they scored in the third quarter to make it a 24-12 game and the defense did the rest.

“Offensively, we just couldn’t get clicking. It was like Week 1,” Cummings said. “We were doing it to ourselves. We had to use two timeouts in six seconds. False starts. It put us in the hole.”

Shannon Morales got the start at quarterback for Ferriday, but he did not have one of his better games Friday night. So Cummings put Ronald Williams in to try to ignite the offense.

“Shannon was just out of sync. Ronald tried to manage the game for us,” Cummings said. “Darryl Rosenthal played offensive and defensive line the whole game.”

Ferriday finished its season with a 6-5 overall record.
