NATCHEZ — For the second time this season the Adams County Christian School boys basketball team was at full-strength. And for the second time, they left the game on the winning end, as they took down Riverfield Academy 62-33.

But for head coach Richy Spears, he knows he can get more from his team.

“I just want us to play the perfect game,” Spears said. “I know what we are capable of, and I know how we can play, and that is what I want. But, we played well, especially defensively in the second half. We picked it up and played a lot better.”

The Rebels held the Raiders to just 10 second half points, while racking up 21 of their own.

However, most of the damage was done in the first half, and done by senior Brandon Brooks, who led all scorers with 27 points.

“When you’ve got somebody like that, you’ve got to use him and take advantage of that,” Spears said. “Whether it is taking it in and letting him score, or getting it in there and having him kick it back out or hit somebody cutting to the basket.”

Brooks scored 15 of the team’s 22 points in the first quarter.

The Rebels also had help on the offensive end from Jay Fleming, who scored 10 points and Lester Wells who added six.

Spears said he was also pleased to see his team beginning to get the fast break down, which is something they work on daily.

“We run the break everyday in practice,” Spears said. “We are trying to get the right people in the right lanes and doing the right things. When you’ve gotspeed and athleticism like we have, and a big kid in the middle, we just have to learn to get to the right spot.”

ACCS jumped out to an early lead on Riverfield and went into halftime up by 17.

In the second half, Spears had the team set up a variety of offensive plays and the Rebels were able to milk the clock until the final buzzer.
