Laverne Allgood

NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Laverne Allgood, 95, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church with Vance Woodcock and the Rev. Dillon Wickliffe officiating.

Burial service will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. today until time of service at the church.

Mrs. Allgood was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Waldrup, the daughter of James Obie Pittman and Annie Mae McCormick Pittman.

She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1951 and taught Sunday school for more than 60 years. She was very active in WMU and Young at Heart. She was the office manager of D & L Allgood from 1995 to November 2000. She loved her birthday reunions every October since she was 90. Her love was family, visiting, cooking, and her flower gardens. She also still held an active cosmetology license.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 51 years, Dewey Ottis “D.O.” Allgood; a son, Dewey Darrell Allgood; a brother, D.R. Pittman; and three sisters, Mary Frances Allgood, Helen Dixon, and Jewell Rowell.

Survivors include her son, James Kent Allgood of Natchez; one daughter, Dewanna Allgood of Natchez; one grandson, James Kent “Jimmy” Allgood and wife, Carla, of Natchez; one great grandson, Justin Kent Allgood of Natchez; one brother, Tommie Pittman of Columbia; nieces and nephews, Tom Dent Allgood of Busy Corner, Alan Fortenberry of Columbia, MS., Timmy Fortenberry of Petal, Hewitt and Randy Pittman of Jackson, Albert Dixon, Brenda Allgood of Heidelberg, and Bet Mosley of Vossburg; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Alan Fortenberry, Timmy Fortenberry, Hewitt Pittman, Randy Pittman, Danny Allgood and Bill Torrey.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Ed Daly for his tender loving and attentive care.
