Griggs drops 21, Ferriday girls easily win

As soon as the basketball was tossed in the air for the opening tip, the Ferriday Lady Trojans had their foot on the gas pedal.

Basket after basket and steal after steal, Ferriday began the game on a 25-0 run and eventually went on to take down New Living Word 53-25.

“We don’t need to rest on anything,” Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said. “We are trying to go out with a purpose every game, and they accomplished that really well tonight. I’m happy with the win.”

The Lady Trojans ran a full court press early in the game, forcing turnovers and getting easy basket after easy basket.

“There are some things we aren’t doing right on it,” said Abron of the press. “I wanted them to stay in it so I could see some things. It is too bunched in, and I want it more spread out. We have to keep working on it.”

Jada Griggs led Ferriday with 21 points, with Trenace Morgan and LaKeshanna Harris chipping it with nine and eight points, respectively.

Kesia Mason was also a major factor in the game, recording multiple rebounds and assists.

“I’ve been stressing how important it is for them to step up because everybody knows about Jada now,” Abron said. “They are keying in on her once we start district, so it is best they start stepping up now.”

Leading 26-3 after the first quarter of play, Ferriday was able to cruise to victory, outscoring New Living Word 10-4 in the second quarter and 12-8 in the third quarter.

Ferriday has one more game before district play, and Abron said she was glad she was able to get everyone into the game. heading into crunch time.
