Vidalia house destroyed in fire

VIDALIA — A Sunday afternoon house fire on Charles Street in Vidalia destroyed a family home and left one firefighter injured.

The family was not at home at the time of the fire.

Vidalia Fire Department officials responded to the call at approximately 1 p.m.

During the fire, a VFD official fractured his ankle while fighting the blaze.

The firefighter was transported to the emergency room at Natchez Regional Medical Center, said VFD Fire Chief Johnny Evans.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

City of Vidalia officials reached out to the community through social media asking community members to help the family impacted by the fire.

Clothes for the family’s children, Katie and Johnny Ladd Donald, were requested in sizes 6/7 for the daughter, 5T for the son and 2/3T for the baby daughter.

Donations can be dropped off at 2035 Robert Gray Street or at 2054 Charles Street in Vidalia.

Vidalia residents Pam Higgins and Teresa Reynolds, who live on Charles Street and saw the fire Sunday afternoon, will also take donations.

Higgins said Miss-Lou residents can call her at 601-807-0794 or Reynolds at 601-334-6162 to donate specific items for the family.
