NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Elmo Matt Irby Jr., 83, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at Promise Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Basilica with the Rev. David O’Connor officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. todat and from 10 a.m. until service time Tuesday at St. Mary Basilica.

Irby was born on Dec. 15, 1931, in Yazoo City, the son of Elmo Matt Irby Sr. and Eula Maye Cooper Irby.

He was a member of St. Mary Basilica, a member and past president of Belwood Country Club, past president of the Natchez Lions Club and past president of the Cathedral Athletic Association. He retired from Deposit Guaranty National Bank.

Irby was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Robert Thomas “Bobby” Irby.

Survivors include his wife, Maureen H. Irby; children, Gena L. Moore and husband, Phillip, of Meridian, Patrick James Irby and wife, Scarlet, of Hattiesburg and Melissa Irby Dossett and husband, Christopher, of Diamondhead; his brother, Thomas M. Irby and wife, Merle, of Meridian; grandchildren, Dan Moore, Adam Moore, Ryan Moore, Dylan L. Irby, Roman J. Irby, Robert Irby Dossett and Bradley Christopher Dossett; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Irby Dossett, Brad Dossett, Eddie Foley, Walt Brown, Mike Ellard, Glynn Laird, Ricky Irby and George Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will by Ross Partridge, Andrew Eidt, Clifton VanCleave, Christopher VanCleave, George Herring, Jim Kimbrell, Adrian Stallone and George Fulgham.

The family extends a special thank you to the physicians that cared for Elmo during his illness; Dr. Blane Mire, Dr. Ed Daly, Dr. Brad LeMay, Dr. Barry Tillman and Dr. Matthew Verucchi. The family would also like to express its heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff at Promise Hospital for their excellent care and genuine compassion.
