Burial will follow at Cane Ridge cemetery in Lorman where her ashes will be buried beside her husband.

Brasfield was born on Nov. 10, 1922, in Quanah, Texas, the daughter of Guy William Manning and Blanche Brewton Manning.

Mrs. Brasfield grew up in Dallas  and moved to Lubbock, Texas, in her teens.  She graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech.  She met her husband, Robert O. Brasfield, Jr. (aka Babe and Brass), who was stationed in Lubbock during World War II, where they were married. They later settled in Lorman at his family home after the war ended. He died in 1980, and she later moved to Jackson to be near her children. What an inspiration and delight to her children and family she was — never judging and always seeing the best in everyone and every situation with a smile on her face. Some of her favorite things in life were gardening, reading, sewing, daily crossword puzzles, playing bridge, listening to great music, dancing and a glass of scotch in the backyard while being entertained by her grandchildren. Toward the end, one of the few pleasures left her were the bright faces of her grandchildren, which always seemed to give her energy unlike anything else.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and brother, Guy William Manning Jr. and wife, Yvette.
Survivors include her children, Jacksonians Jill Brasfield Fair, Robert Oscar Brasfield, III “Bob” and wife, Lynn and Julie Brasfield Gilchrist and husband, Bob; grandchildren, Michelle Majure Turba and husband, Mark, of Tupelo, Robert Oscar Brasfield IV or “Brass” of Brandon, Brandy Autumn Brasfield of Nashville, Whitney Marian Gilchrist of Jackson and Robert Alford Gilchrist, Jr. or “ Bob and Papa Peachez” of Hollywood; great-granchildren, Samantha Maxine Turba and Zachary Noah Turba of Tupelo; and three nieces;  Jacqueline Manning Chambers and husband, Tim, Marsha Manning and husband, Pete Aller, of Vancouver and Shelley Manning Moerbe of Electra, Texas.
The family would like to give special recognition to Karen Lyle Camp and Hospice Ministries for their services in her time of need.
Memorials may be made to French Camp Academy, Hospice Ministries or the charity of your choice.
