Man loses appeal of bank robbery conviction

NATCHEZ (AP) — The state Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of an Adams County man for the shooting a deputy shortly after robbing a bank in 2011.
Kendrick Smith was sentenced to 70 years in prison in 2013. The sentence was composed of two separate sentences, 40 years for armed robbery and 30 years for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.
Smith was on trial for the June 24, 2011, robbery of United Mississippi Bank and the subsequent shooting of Deputy Buddy Frank. Frank recovered from the shooting.
The Appeals Court on Tuesday rejected Smith’s challenge to jury instructions and various pretrial motion rulings.
