NATCHEZ — Emergency response crews are working an accident at the intersection of John R. Junkin Drive and U.S. 61 near Natchez Regional Medical Center.

An 18-wheeler hauling steel beams turned over while attempting to turn right from John R. Junkin Drive onto U.S. 61 south, spilling its load and blocking the south bound lane of U.S. 61, directly in front of the hospital.

Natchez police, Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol troopers and other emergency crews are working to clean up the accident, but urge motorists to avoid the area if at all possible until the traffic lanes are clear again. A crane has been called in to help move the steel beams onto another truck. Traffic from John R. Junkin Drive to U.S. 61 South has been detoured through the Tracetown Shopping Center. Crews hope to have the scene cleaned up by mid-morning,.
