NATCHEZ — In an attempt to unify the Miss-Lou community, Ronald Chatman is hosting a Miss-Lou Super Bowl Flag Football tournament Saturday at Adams County Christian School.

As the manager at Vidalia Total Fitness, Chatman has spread the word about the flag football tournament, and is asking for anyone hoping to participate to show up at 9 a.m. to be placed on a team if they aren’t bringing their own. The tournament will begin at 10 a.m. and will be played throughout the day.

“By being the manager of this gym and working at the Natchez gym at night, I get to meet so many different people,” said Chatman, who graduated from Natchez High School in 1993. “Natchez and Vidalia, we only have a bridge separating us, and most of these kids don’t know each other. Let’s try to bring the kids together.”

Chatman has engaged in some friendly trash talk with high school players participating in the event, and has even reached out to form his own team of local talent, including Natchez High quarterback Chris Scott.

“I have three to four players from Block playing on my team, two to five players from Cathedral, (Cathedral assistant coach) Brett Hinson and three of Natchez High School’s best players,” Chatman said. “They’re telling me ACCS is going to have the best team, though, so it should be a lot of fun.”

Chatman said he reached out to all of the local schools, including Jefferson County in Fayette, in hopes to make this tournament a big event.

The flag football tournament isn’t just for high school students and players, though, as Chatman has an open invitation to anyone wanting to play. He’s also hoping to have two teams comprised of girls play against each other, as well.

Each 7-on-7 game in the tournament will be played with a 30-minute running clock. Each score will count for six points, and the extra point will be attempted five yards out from the goal line.

Those wanting to participate in the tournament may do so for free by showing up before the 10 a.m. start time.
