NATCHEZ — Jimmy Allgood is never short of big ideas, but for the 15th annual Redneck Adventures Outdoor Extravaganza set for later this month, Allgood is going all out.

The Redneck Adventures creator has scheduled 15 days for what he is calling a ‘redneck renewal retreat’ where people from all over the country will fill the Miss-Lou for outdoor fun.

“We do this to show off the ‘Sportsman’s Paradise’ of Mississippi and Louisiana,” Allgood said. “We come together and we bridge the two cities and states. Our goal is to bring in multiple types of folks, put them on teams, and truly have a Redneck Adventure experience.”

The Redneck Adventure experience will feature squirrel hunts, raccoon hunts, hog hunts and rabbit hunts for people Allgood said come from all walks of life.

“This friendly hunting competition has evolved into having teams that could be comprised of ‘Everyday Joes’, to doctors, to country music singers and professional athletes blended in with a special needs kid or adult, maybe someone suffering from cancer or even a soldier,” Allgood said.

But for his grand plans to come to fruition, Allgood is looking for the Miss-Lou to step up and continue to support like they have the past 15 years.

“I challenge folks in and around the Miss-Lou that have huntable properties to please step up to the plate,” Allgood said. “Know that this is one of our main events each year, where we take those that are handicapable or those kids from broken homes outdoors, This is all about fun. It is the time where you let folks hunt your property. They’re not coming to shoot your deer, this is just the fun time of the year.”

Through the years, Allgood said he has made some of his best memories during the events, but one that sticks out to him is an afternoon that Dilou Smith had four years ago.

“Dilou went on a squirrel hunt with us and she got what I call the ‘Ultimate Redneck Grand Slam,’” Allgood said. “She got a red fox squirrel, a cat squirrel and a black squirrel, all in the same hunt within about two hours in Anna’s Bottom near Natchez. It is memories like that and the smiles — priceless.”

But the two weeks won’t be limited to just hunting. Redneck Adventures will also be hosting two banquets and their second annual Road Kill Cookoff.

“The banquets will be each Friday and will be at the Natchez Community Center with doors opening around 5 p.m.,” Allgood said. “I have a Cajun specialty chef on the first Friday and then Bingo Star and Red Owens on the second Friday.”

The cookoff will take place Saturday night at the RV Park in Vidalia.

Ultimately, Allgood just wants everyone involved to hit the woods and have a good time.

“There is going to be tons of food, fun and entertainment,” Allgood said. “And what is the cost for all of this? Absolutely nothing. Come and have a blast and enjoy everything on the friends and family of Redneck Adventures and Miss-Lou Tours.”
