Survivors tea party will be in Natchez

God’s Angelic Warriors, a cancer support group which sponsors a Relay for Life Team for the American Cancer Society, will host its 13th Survivor and Awareness Tea Saturday at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church, 207 Parker St., Natchez.

Demetria Reed and Evelyn H. Smith founded the team of survivors and supporters who make up God’s Angelic Warriors.

At the time of the inception of GAW, there was no support aware to them. Both are multi-decade survivors and for that reason have annually assisted me and Eddie Bell Means Fleming, who is now deceased, with the annual tea to present awareness to the Miss-Lou community.

Because of the prevalence of this dreaded disease in our population, the tea is used as a mechanism along with monthly contributions to the American Cancer Society as a means to foster our desire for a cure.

This is an awareness event but also features entertainment, fellowship and attendees can make a financial contribution to our relay team.

The funds received will allow the community to make this worthwhile event successful.

If you are a survivor or have had someone in your family or social circle, who has succumbed to cancer, it would be an excellent time to honor their memory.

Memorials can be purchased for release the night of the relay. Details will be given at the tea.

Your attendance and donations are greatly appreciated. If you are unable to attend, keep us in your prayers and thoughts and try to join us on May 1 at the Vidalia Riverfront for the Relay for Life. It will be a time you will never forget. It is a great time to show survivors, caretakers, cancer patients and honor memories of those who lost the fight.

Mark your calendar. We hope to see you at the tea! Your contributions are tax deductible. Make checks payable to American Cancer Society.

Lillian Edney is founder of the Survivor Awareness Tea.
