First teen summit was a success

T. Bhavani, a 16-year-old from India, was quoted saying, “Life is nothing but challenges; the more you undergo, the more you learn.”

This quote relates to the challenges that youth are faced with today. Our 2014-2018 International Program focus is “Launching New Dimensions of Service.”

In an effort to reach the large portion of the teens affected by crises, Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. partnered with the local Greeks to sponsor our fifth annual teen summit.

After weeks of planning this event, the vision came to fruition on the morning of March 21 at the ASU School of Nursing. The attendance was phenomenal. This event impacted 200 teens, parents and organizations, and has received rave reviews from the community.

The breakout sessions were truly beneficial and informative. The event was free to all teens and youth in the Miss-Lou area. The teens received information on Stop the Violence, Stop the Abuse, health issues, college prep, and STEM — Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

We were fortunate to have more than 20 presenters. I would like to offer thanks, also, to our other sponsors: Alcorn State University, Vidalia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

We, the members of Zeta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. are grateful for the outstanding support and responses we received as we render services to all mankind.
