VICKSBURG — The Cathedral Green Wave had a tough time getting base hits against a quartet of Warren Central pitchers as the Vikings went on take a 4-0 victory Monday afternoon.

Winning pitcher Josh Lieberman combined with starting pitcher Layne Tedder (two innings), Aaron Green (two innings) and Tristan Lowery (one-third of an inning) to hold Cathedral to just four hits. The Vikings’ defense was solid as well as they committed just two errors.

“I knew coming into the game they were going to throw several (pitchers),” Green Wave head coach Craig Beesley said. “We had a good approach at the plate. We hit the ball well. They played some good defense.”

The only extra-base hit the Green Wave was able to manage was a double by Pate Shirley. Andrew Beesley, Zach Flattmann and Gabe Smith each had a single. Cathedral also left six runners on base.

Smith got the start for the Green Wave and against the Class 6A Vikings he held them scoreless through the first four innings. Then Warren Central finally got to him in the bottom of the fifth as they plated four runs, three of them earned.

“They just got some hits in the right spots. He did well in that inning. They just got the ball in the gaps,” Beesley said. As for if any of the three errors Cathedral committed helped the Vikings, Beesley said, “They did.”

Warren Central finished with five hits. Lieberman had two of them in three at-bats and scored one run. He also gave up just one hit, struck out two and walked on in two and two-thirds innings to pick up the win on the mound.

“I thought we played well all day. It was a positive game for us, even though we lost,” Beesley said.

Smith was charged with the loss after giving up all five hits with one strikeout and no walks. Sam Parker pitched the bottom of the sixth inning and struck out two batters.

Cathedral (9-2) returns to MHSAA Division 7-1A play today at 7 p.m. when it plays host to Bogue Chitto.

Several local and area

baseball games rained out

NATCHEZ — After a couple of weeks of inclement weather in mid- and late-March left local and area baseball coaches scrambling to re-do their schedules, the madness has spilled into early April.

Sunday’s heavy rain event that resulted in one to three inches of rain across the Miss-Lou forced several games that were to take place Monday afternoon to be rescheduled.

Adams County Christian School’s non-district home game against Centreville Academy at the very least has been postponed. Rebels head coach Richy Spears said Monday afternoon that he doubts if the game will be rescheduled.

Vidalia’s LHSAA District 3-3A games at Avoyelles High School in Moreauville, La. were also postponed. Vikings head coach Kale Davis said no make-up date on the junior varsity and varsity games has been announced.

Block’s home game against LHSAA District 3-3A opponent Montgomery was postponed until Tuesday, April 14. The varsity game will still take place at 4 p.m., but there will be no JV game.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy was originally scheduled to host MAIS District 7-A rival Tensas Academy Monday afternoon, but a scheduling conflict forced those two teams to play each other in a doubleheader last Thursday, WCCA athletic director Christopher McGraw said.

WCCA will next play at Franklin Academy at 6 p.m. Tuesday and will host the Cougars at 6 p.m. Friday. If the Rams win both of those games, they will be the district champions. If not, they will go into the playoffs as the district’s No. 2 seed.
